Life In Lockdown: A Reflection

It has been four weeks since we launched Life in our Lockdown user-generated gallery. We have taken a moment to reflect on some findings.

“A few weeks ago we were asked by a client to collect user-generated content featuring healthcare workers on the front line. The resulting collection of images was dramatic, emotional and arresting. Everyone who has seen it takes a moment. With Life in Lockdown we wanted to show some of those images to the wider world at the same time as celebrating some of the more positive things to come out of this terrible situation. The nine galleries we present on Life in Lockdown are curated feeds showing just some of the memorable stories from Spring, 2020”

Our way of living has changed significantly since COVID-19 came into our lives.

Using Miappi technology, we scoured social media far and wide to bring you vibrant snapshots of life in lockdown across the world in the form of nine curated and self-updating galleries. Click the image below to view

It’s comforting to know that a lot of us are facing the same challenges under lockdown, as well as inspiring when you discover others’ unique and creative ways of dealing with this newly-enforced lifestyle.

For many, it’s a time for self-improvement – exercising, new wellness regimes, and trying out that new hairstyle you’ve been wanting to for a while. For others, it’s a chance to get decadent in the kitchen. Treat yourself to a splendid and tooth-hurtingly rich cake, or whip up a gnocchi feast worthy of a Michelin Star. You can see what the world has been cooking up and baking by following these links: Home cooking moments & Home baking moments.

As it happens, over 360,000 social media mentions since lockdown began, were specifically about people sharing their bread making ventures!

One of our clients is tracking food related moments. The brand in question has seen an increase of almost 1,000% in content relating to food prepared at home. The hashtag #lecker (which translates to ‘delicious’ in German) was responsible for most of that spike as the World moved into lockdown, with organic home cooking posts trending.

It seems the public have stepped up their cooking game… just look at that graph!

And let’s face it – in lockdown, there’s no escaping the fact that the bookshelf that’s been sitting around for months in the corner won’t put itself up. With hardware shops remaining open, it’s a chance to finish those DIY projects that have been on the backburner, or embark on new ambitious reimaginings for the rooms that suddenly feel a lot more lived in.

Those of us with furry friends are thanking their lucky stars that they have cheerful and loyal companionship to get them through these worrying and uncertain times. Check out moments from pets at home here. Except when they get exceptionally needy during a crucial zoom meeting!

Home learning schedules can be intense for both children and their adults, not to mention the fact that it’s a drag not being able to see your friends. So it’s great to see families finding time to have fun and banish boredom with wholesome activities .

But really, life in lockdown at home is a breeze compared to the gruelling reality healthcare workers have to face day to day fighting COVID-19 on the front line. Our Healthcare Heroes gallery is a glimpse into a world rarely seen by the public: Bruised faces from masks, team photos, nurses in full PPE armour, and moving tribute artworks are just some examples of the astonishing images captured by healthcare professionals all around the world.

As you can see, the power of storytelling through UGC is vast. But we can’t wait until this particular story comes to an end. Until then, we’ll keep crunching those hashtags, and running those filters to bring you the most inspiring images of life in the face of adversity.
